A Special Veteran’s Day Visitor

Richter’s Rockets and the other first grade classes had the opportunity to celebrate Veteran’s Day with Lieutenant Brian Patterson of the United States Navy!  Our class just finished studying different types of Ships as a nonfiction story in our Reading curriculum.  Lt.. Patterson showed us a great power point including many different types of ships and discussed all of them with our class.  He also shared what it was like to live on a submarine for 45 days at a time underwater!    We learned so many interesting things from Lt.. Patterson and are very proud of his bravery in serving our country!

A Special Thank You!
The children in Mrs. Hustava’s first grade class at McAnnulty School proudly wore their red, white and blue as they learned about Veteran’s Day.  The children brought in pictures of family members who have served our country.  They fashioned a flag on their classroom door. The children also had a visit from a classmate’s mother who is currently serving in the Navy and her father who served in the Army.  The boys and girls wrote letters to a Marine stationed in Iraq.  He is a good friend of Mrs. Tomnay’s son.  Mrs. Tomnay is a paraprofessional at McAnnulty and is one of our very special friends.   Mrs. Hustava’s class thanks all of the very special Veteran’s for their service to our country.

Strongman

Staff and students welcomed "strongman" Jon Pritiken to McAnnulty Elementary School on November 7, 2007.  Mr. Pritikin performed feats of strength such as bending a steel bar with his teeth, rolling up a frying pan like a burrito, and ripping a telephone book in half.  His most important feat that he shared was the feat of never giving up.  "Never giving up is a true test of strength and courage".  His "real life" message truly touched all of our hearts!  Thank you Mr. Pritiken for becoming our hero!
