Special Treat
As a special treat, Rhian Kenny, piccolo player from the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, spent about an hour and a half with some of our McAnnulty students on Monday, May 5. Rhian played both her flute and her piccolo and talked with the kids about how these instruments work, why they sound and look different, and when the flute came to be. The kids had many questions for her regarding how long she has been playing as well as how often she practices. She played the piccolo solo from Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever" as well as excerpts from "Peter and the Wolf" and Tchaikovsky's fourth symphony, fourth movement. Rhian also took requests and played "Take Me Out the the Ballgame," the "National Anthem" and even a song from Hannah Montana! A big thank you to Rhian Kenny for taking the time to come share her talents with the young students at McAnnulty. We loved having you! THANKS!!
